Why Reading Olympics?
That is an excellent question. We strive to encourage our students to increase their creativity and imagination by reading. We want to encourage our students to aid in their Reading Counts goal and have fun. This is also one way we raise money to support our teachers by giving out grants for every grade level teacher, educational staff and grade level team for supplies they would normally purchase independently. All monies raised, go right back into the benefit of our school and students. So it's a win/win!
Students who read in the classroom and return their signed envelopes are entered into a prize drawing. Students who read above and beyond the classroom time, are further rewarded with money towards the purchase of books at the Book Fair during the week of April 24th - 27th. Yes, we realize that is a little ways from now, but not to worry. The students who qualify are recognized with a "medal" and we keep a list of qualifiers at the registers at the Book Fair.

Reading Olympics Envelope/Reading Log
This year we are pleased to be able to run our Reading Olympics program concurrently with the Eugene Emeralds Baseball Sluggo's Home Run Reading Challenge.
Since the students are tracking their reading on the Reading Log, we will total the amount of reading and after the Reading Olympics has concluded will forward the totals onto Eugene Emeralds. They will award EVERY student who finishes their goal of reading every day with 2 FREE TICKETS to one of the Emerald's predetermined Reading Program Redemption games. This is so much fun!
